Piner Company History
In 1945, following the end of World War II, a young couple left the employ of Mare
Island Naval Shipyard and decided to go into business for themselves. Fern Piner,
who had experience as a nurse's aid in her aunt's nursing home in Napa, and her
husband Wendell Piner accepted residents in their home thus forming what would become
Piner's Guest Home.
To expand their business, Fern and Wendell Piner purchased what was later to become
Napa Ambulance Service Inc.,
from the same aunt for whom Fern Piner had worked as
a nurse's aide. This was followed by the start of an
oxygen service
and several
other businesses.
1964 marked a major change in the complexion of Piner's, when the skilled nursing facility was built closely followed by a new building for
Piner's Guest Home.
Because
of the untimely death of Wendell Piner a few weeks before the scheduled opening
of the
Nursing Home,
Fern Piner was thrust into the management of the entire operation,
where she remained until the business was sold to her son, Gary Piner, in 1985.
Piner's is a family business, and
we want our staff to feel like family. As part
of the family, it is expected that
our staff will support the family values and the continued efforts
to provide services that not only will be profitable but be truly outstanding. More than just
a job, a workplace where we can all be proud. Proud of the services we provide and of the great number
of satisfied customers that Piner's enjoys.
